Business Podcasts
- Mixergy: "Home of the Ambitious Upstart"-- You will love the sound the introduction, once you listen to just a few of Andrew Warner's podcasts. I have found invaluable information, and incredible people through Mixergy. Check this out frequently, or becoming a paying member. The free interviews are only available for a short amount of time.
- TheFoundation: Brand new podcast as of June 2013, and it's head honcho Andy Drish is a rockstar. He's such a compassionate and awesome person, and he seems to have just the right mindset for sharing absolutely incredible things. I am excited to see what becomes of TheFoundation.
- BlogfastFM: Srinivas Rao is a machine. He has such am impressive, consistently top-notch podcasts I've ever come across. I consider him to be on rockstar status, and you should too.
Blogging
- SocialTriggers: Derek Halpern is the man behind SocialTriggers. He is one of the genius' of the web, in my opinion. His content is outrageously good. A couple of his favorites are below:
- SmartPassiveIncome: Pat Flynn is world famous for launching his career from his parents basement. His content through the blog and his newsletter are killer, and are worth the read every time. The information he shares will help you in many ways, but it's also important to see his style of blogging. Below are a few of my favorite posts of his:
Web Design
- Sacha Grief: Sacha Grief blows my mind with his blog. The level of experience he has in the industry I am in love with, really suits me. Below are some of my favorite posts of his
- Nathan Barry: Nate and Sacha have worked together on some projects, and their level of excellence is neck and neck.
App Development
- TutsPlus: one of the best tutorial sites for development I've ever used.
- StackOverflow: This is the place you go first when trying to solve specific problems. The key to using StackOverflow is knowing exactly the right terminology to use for what problem you are facing.
- irc.freenode.net (I use LimeChat as a chat client): If you are working in any of the main languages (PHP, Python, Ruby) or frameworks, you will find a channel for you. Some lively rooms to check out: #startups, #ruby, #python, #wordpress
Writing on the web
- CopyHackers: Extremely well known duo of writers that have helped insane amounts of startups write better for the web. Top notch content.
- EnchantedMarketing: One of my favorite writers, Henneke Duistermaat has an incredible style of writing, and she helps you find your voice.
Marketing + SEO
- KISSmetrics blog: These guys (excuse my French) know their shit. They are masters of inbound marketing, and the content they share is consistently incredible. Some of my favorites:
- CrazyEgg: The Daily Egg: Another blog that has completely nailed the inbound marketing process. Some standout articles below:
- Seth Godin: he is a legend in the startup and online business world. His books are bestsellers, and his blog is one of a kind. I enjoy reading his daily blog post delivered to my e-mail every day, (sometimes more than once) because he hands out gems of wisdom like they were free... and they are if you start following him!
- ViperChill: Glen is more of an underground guy. I am not a fan of WarriorForum.com, which is why this guy is a breath of fresh air. Check out the below article:
Business Development
- Life-Longlearner: Scott Britton is awesome at making headlines with awesome bizdev content. Below are some highlights:
Awesome people
- Gabe Weinberg: The founder of the safe alternative to Google, DuckDuckGo. One of the best blogs on the planet, and I can't wait for his book on traction to come out. I've also had the pleasure of meeting him, because the DDG office is close to where I live, and he has meetings with entrepreneurs all the time. Very awesome guy!
- Dustin Curtis: Founder of elite blogging network SVBTLE, who I am not nearly cool enough for. The elite writers that he has pulled into his ring is outrageous.. Plus it's always fun to see when people try to steal his designs.
- Patrick McKenzie: better known as Patio11 on Hackernews, this man is a SaaS sales guru. He has a near cult like following.
- Noah Kagan: One of my favorite marketers, head of AppSumo. He's got great content, and I love his energy. Constantly learning from him.
- Dan Shipper: Brilliant dude who is from Philly. Runs his own funded SaaS, and his content is highly respected in the hacker community.
- Amy Hoy: Amy is also from Philadelphia, and she runs several of her own SaaS companies, as well as sells her own courses on running businesses. Without a doubt, I will meet her one day when I can afford her classes.
- Joel.is - Joel Gasciogne is the founder of Buffer and his blog is one of the best resources I've ever found when it comes to learning how to start a business.
- Justin Kan: Founder of Justin.TV and Exec. He is a disruptive dude, and he's awesome. His blog is always tactfully written.
- Danielle Morrill: She has a major influence on me, I really appreciate her transparency in her blog about starting up, then subsequently closing down (Referly). Her hustle is hard to deny.
- Dave McClure: Known for being brash, this VC runs a prestegious accellerator called 500 Startups. I love his realness- and he has legendary content online.
Communities
- Hackernews: Hands down the #1 community to find out the breaking news about entrepreneurs, startups, famous tech companies, disruptive technology.. Everything! Oh, and the real treasures lie within the brilliant comments (if the thread isn't too full of people bickering). It's a news link aggregator run by a prestigious business accelerator in SV (Y Combinator)
- Reddit /r/startups /r/marketing /r/entrepreneurs -- These can be hit or miss, but there are gems to find. Most importantly: great places to talk to real people about real things. Beware of trolls.
I am a web designer, developer, marketer, and entrepreneur. I currently reside in King of Prussia, PA (outside of Philly). I also am looking for part time work. If you are interested in talking more, please contact me here.
